Blog Post 3: Current Event/ Media Connection

The audience of this article would be everyone outside of Israel and Palestine. I feel this is an informative piece about the fight between Israel and Palestine, though I feel it favors the Palestinians. In some parts it may be pro Israel though, it just depends.  They talk about how life in Palestine has got worse and the economic situation worsening also.  The writer also mentions historical events like the Intifada.
This article connects to my book overall because my book is entirely about the Israel and Palestinian conflict. My book tells a tale about a boy in Palestine and a girl in Israel writing to each other. They send emails between each other as if they were friends, which they did become.

Business Letter to Tal Levine (Language Arts) #2

Dear Mrs. Tal Levine:
Your people have tormented my people for years. We live in a town that is trashed and very unsanitary. Worst of all I cannot leave Palestine because I live in the Gaza strip, it’s blocked so no one can get out. As much as I would love to meet you, I cannot. Like I said, blame your people for that. Also, your people randomly destroy our houses, after we have gotten our licenses and everything! They will tear them down for very bad reason, not reasons at all. I feel they just want to make us angry so they do. The licenses take a long time to capture and are expensive.

In the confrontation, all we wanted was to visit the Rock of the Dome. It is our holy site and we should be able to go when we please. We belong in Jerusalem for this reason. We were here first, and are not leaving. Your people barged in on us, after the Holocaust, and quite frankly, we don’t like it. We would all love it if your people went back to Germany, since the Holocaust is over and everything.

This conflict has gone on for too long though, thousands of years, and most likely won’t end soon. I am ready to forgive you guys if you guys but all of Palestine wants you guys to basically give up Israel. I don’t think it is right if they just take your land from you but it is what has to be done. We need our holy site and they will stop at nothing to get it, even if that means war, which we have already been in with you guys.

Sincerely,
Naam

State of Genocide- Language Arts, A Bottle in the Gaza Sea

The stage of genocide that goes along with our book is classification. The Israelis and Palestinians use the phrase "us and them" which is what classifying someone is. When people or group classify against another group or religion is Classification. In the book when the prime minister was shot, the Israelis immediately blamed the Palestinians.  "Those Palestinian bastards! They'll pay for this!" (Zenatti, 2005, p. 38). is a quote that shows the classification. The Israeli man who shouted this use the words "Those" and "They'll". Also they accuse the Palestinians without knowing for sure, come to find an Israeli killed the prime minister.  The Israelis and Palestinians are not permitted to speak to one another, live together, or even speak each other's languages. These examples I have written above show examples of classification because it shows the hatred for certain groups. Israelis and Palestinians have grown up hating each other. They have been told and taught to basically hate each other. They have been told if they associate with each other in a friendly manner, then they will be punished.
